OOTD Quickie: Rainy Day Edition

Just in from running around all day! While I was out, snapped a few iPhone pics of what I was wearing. Now, a rain jacket and boots is hardly innovative when it comes to fashion but as you know, since many of your requested to see what I wear when I’m “not dressed up”…I love sharing what I wear to knock around the city!

So here it is:

Shopping Tip #1 I say it all the time, many of my fellow bloggers say and I’ll keep saying it – Always try things on! The number listed on a tag is more often than not vanity sizing so something could be huge or too small for you, you won’t know until you try it on. I’m not an inbetweenie (a plus girl who floats the line of straight sizes and plus i.e. a US12/14) by any measure, however I find so many amazing things in the straight size section just by eyeballing things, trying them on and many times they fit! Exhibit A: this Calvin Klein cape is a size L which loosely translates to a US10/12. Obviously the silhouette is extremely generous and as long as the shoulder seams are in the right place and the arms are long enough and comfortable, you’re good to go!

Shopping Tip #2 Buy things off season. It’s easy to push past things you aren’t looking for i.e. a great jacket because it’s a 90 degree day in NYC and the last thing you want to think about is layering but I found this cape in TJMaxx this past summer and the price was a steal! I wasn’t out shopping for outerwear but when you see something you love that you know you’ll use, snag it and just hold on to it for a couple of months. I might have been reluctant to pay full ticket price for this piece since it’s not really a traditional “Kellie jacket” but I’m so glad that I picked it up.

Here’s what I’m wearing:

Cape – Calvin Klein via TJ Maxx

Tee – 17 Sundays

Jeans – Calvin Klein via TJ Maxx

Bag – Marc Jacobs Collection

Boots – Hunter Original Rain Boots (get them here)

  1. I do the same thing. Buy pieces a little pout of the current season and stash them. It's like Christmas when I open my reserve closet, lol. Love the boots, they are fantastic! And your hair just keeps getting better and better!

  2. I buy clothing in the off-season too! The deals can be really fantastic, and I agree with Crystal, it's like opening presents months later!
